“Guarantee Gaeseong Industrial Complex Restart and Private Interchange,” The 6.15 Southern Committee and Others hold Press Conference on the 6th 5.24 Action [South-North Interchange Prohibit] anniversary, “No Solution for the Nuclear Issue without Conversation”

The Southern Committee to the 6.15 South-North Joint Declaration Fulfillment, together with the Emergency Planning Committee to the Firms occupied in Gaeseong Industrial Complex and the Emergency Planning Committee to the South-North Economic Cooperation, held a press conference on May 24 (the 6th anniversary of the 5.24 Action [South-North Interchange Prohibit] by the Lee Myung-bak regime) at the National Assembly and urged that the authorities concerned guarantee the Gaeseong Industrial Complex restart and private interchange, and lift the 5.24 (South-North Interchange prohibit) Action.

The 6.15 Joint Committee will restore Gaeseong as the ground for reconciliation again through our National Joint Anniversaries and all in Gaeseong.”

Yu, Dongho, chair to Emergency Planning Committee of the South-North Economy Cooperation, deplored, saying, “We businesspeople, heralds of reconciliation of the South and the North, are now being accused, with the terrible reputation of ‘the supporters for nuclear missile’. What on earth have the businesspeople and workers, those who jumped into the South-North Economy Cooperation only upon the trust on the government, done wrong?”

The Park, Geun-hye government shut down the Gaeseong Industrial Complex as well as all other South-North Interchange this February, announcing, “We won’t have any conversation with the North for as long as the North does not discard the nucleus.” Yoon, Jongoh, a lawmakers-elect (Woolsan city Book-gu) who joined the press conference this day, emphasized the importance of the South-North Interchange, saying, “Even the longest enemy against North Korea in the world and also leading the current restrict against the country, the USA, permits their citizens’ visit to North Korea. That we, the one involved for Unification, are not able to meet the other involved for Unification is that we ourselves give up our own Unification.”

Congressman Hong, Ikpyo (the Democratic Party along: the leading opposition) criticized, saying, “The 5.24 Action and the Shutdown of Gaeseong Industrial Complex are above-the-law administrative measures. They block new productive power of the Korean economy.”

Lift the 5.24 Action!,’ demanded the enactment of ‘Gaeseong Industrial Complex’ Special Law, criticizing and appealing, “The South should lead the South-North dialogue, not simply saying ‘no’ to the Northern proposal of military talks. How is the government planning to proceed to solve the nuclear situation even without any talk? Rejecting conversation is just the same as not solving the nuclear problem.” They also requested that the 20th National Assembly “make a diversion to the government’s dead-end restrict against the North, leading it to reconciliation and cooperation.”
